Back Muscles

Back Muscles:

The back is made up of many interconnecting muscles of varying layers. The spine is bordered by muscles including the intertransversarii muscle and the multifidus spinae. The trapezius, which runs from the neck to between the shoulder blades, helps with the movement of the neck. The latissimus dorsi is a large muscle that runs from behind the shoulders to the hips. The many muscles of the back work together to provide support for your upper body and and gives you flexibility and aides in movement. The lower back, the area where most people experience pain, is involved in bending forward and backward. It is often the bending forward while lifting that creates back pain.

However, sometimes back pain originates from a muscles outside of the back. The gletus maximus muscle can often be the cause of lower back pain. This can happen if the gluteus maximus is weak, which it usually is in most people. Weakness and pain in the gluteus maximus can aggrvate and worsen lower back pain. If you have lower back pain, it would be wise to also stregthen your gluteus maximus along with all your back muscles. One simple way to gain stregth in this muscle is to practice walking backward on the treadmill or moving leggs in backward motion on the elliptical machine for a few minutes during your regular cardio routine. This backward motion activates the gluteus maximus muscle.
